Prism Health North Texas (PHNTX) announces the expansion of its Worth Street Health Center to now offer healthcare services for the testing and treatment of sexually transmitted infections (STI’s). The new center is centrally located and near many areas of Dallas experiencing the highest rates of both STI and HIV infections. Located across the street from the PHTNX administrative offices at 3900 Junius Street, the Worth Street Health Center will offer walk-in and appointments for STI testing and treatment, as well as HIV prevention and PrEP services. All services will be available for both insured and uninsured individuals with no services refused based on the ability to pay. In October 2020, PHNTX signed a lease at 4004 Worth Street to occupy the entire 23,765-square-foot building for PHNTX clinical research, client services, case management, prevention, and community outreach.

“Dallas unfortunately still remains at the epicenter for sexually transmitted infections and new HIV infections,” says Dr. John Carlo, Chief Executive Officer. “Without greatly expanding clinical services in the area, we will never be able to catch up.”

The Worth Street Health Center is centrally located in downtown Dallas with easy access to public transit, priming it to handle overflow STI testing and PrEP care from its other three area locations in South Dallas, Oak Cliff, and Uptown. The expansion hopes to quickly increase the capacity to see more patients, as well as decrease the wait time for new appointments.

“STI testing is a core component of our services, as testing is the first step in identifying individuals that are HIV positive so they can get quickly connected to medical care,” Cathy Bryan, Executive Vice President of Patient Services and Operations said. “Testing also allows us to initiate discussions around HIV prevention using PrEP when an individual tests negative for HIV, even if the primary reason for testing was not focused on HIV. The expansion of the Worth Street Health Center will allow us to provide this essential service to more North Texans.”

The new additions of clinical services will continue to allow for increased access to STI and HIV testing, prevention, and STI treatment, for not only the 13,000 current patients, but allow for even more access for new patients. Patient financial assistance programs offered by PHNTX ensure that all patients are able to receive these vital services when needed which is especially important right now during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The Worth Street Health Center offers a full range of STI testing, including HIV, gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C, as well as sexual health counseling and PrEP education and initiation. The center’s location in downtown Dallas on the Baylor University Medical Center Campus near public transportation further increases the number of patients the clinic can serve, reducing barriers for transportation to and from healthcare services.

“Many patients have either recently lost their job or cannot find work that offers health insurance,” CEO Dr. John Carlo said. “This is why expanding our health services is so critical right now.”
