Voting is a right that every eligible US citizen should have the ability to exercise. Voting doesn’t only affect changes in Washington D.C. The ability to vote for who is sitting in the oval office every 4 years is important, however, voting in local and regional elections is important too.
Who can vote?
If you are:
- a legal US citizen,
- a resident of the county you have applied to vote,
- at least 18 years old on election day, and
- not currently incarcerated or completing sentencing for committing a felony
you can vote!
Researching your stance on topics and finding time in your schedule to get to a polling place is the hard part of voting. So we want to help you get the easy part done…
How do I register to vote?
You can PRINT AND MAIL a registration form here.
Or you can contact your local VOTER REGISTRAR and complete the process in person.
To VOTE BY MAIL you must meet certain criteria to apply for a mail-in ballot in Texas. You can apply for a mail-in ballot if:
- You are 65 years of age or older.
- Have a debilitating disability or illness.
- Or if you are confined in jail and are still eligible to vote.
Felony offenders are not eligible to vote in Texas until their sentence, parole, and/or probation have been completed.
If you meet any of these requirements and would like an application for a mail-in ballot, download, fill out, and mail this form to your county elections office.
Voter applications must be submitted in person or postmarked no later than 30 days prior to election day.
How do I vote?
If you vote in person you need to bring one of the following as an approved form of ID:
- Texas Driver License issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS)
- Texas Election Identification Certificate issued by DPS
- Texas Personal Identification Card issued by DPS
- Texas Handgun License issued by DPS
- United States Military Identification Card containing the person’s photograph
- United States Citizenship Certificate containing the person’s photograph
- United States Passport (book or card)
You can early vote or on Election Day at any polling location within the county that you are registered. Most locations are open 7 AM – 7 PM, Monday – Sunday.

When can I vote?
NOVEMBER 2, 2021 – Constitutional Amendment and Joint Election
8 state constitutional amendments will be decided this November, as well as various local elections that are city-dependent. Find out more here.
October 4, 2021 – Last day to register to vote in this election
October 18, 2021 – First day to vote early in this election
October 22, 2021 – Last day for the registrar to receive UNPOSTMARKED mail-in ballot application
October 29, 2021 – Last day to vote early in-person
November 2, 2021 – Day mail-in ballots must be postmarked
November 2, 2021 – Last day to submit an UNPOSTMARKED mail-in ballot by 7 pm
November 2, 2021 – Last day to vote in person by 7 pm
MARCH 1, 2022 – Primary Election
In March, Texas will have many statewide races, including Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and Attorney General. The March primaries are your opportunity to choose who you want to represent your political party in the November election. You may only vote for one party in the primary.
January 1, 2022 – First day to apply for a mail-in ballot
January 31, 2022 – Last day to register to vote in this election
February 14, 2022 – First day to vote early in this election
February 18, 2022 – Last day for the registrar to receive UNPOSTMARKED mail-in ballot application
February 25, 2022 – Last day to vote early in-person
March 1, 2022 – Day mail-in ballots must be postmarked
March 1, 2022 – Last day to submit an UNPOSTMARKED mail-in ballot by 7 pm
March 1, 2022 – Last day to vote in person by 7 pm
MAY 7, 2022 – Uniform Election
Many local elections will be held on this day. Depending on where you live it can include Mayor, City Council, or others.
January 1, 2022 – First day to apply for a mail-in ballot
April 7, 2022 – Last day to register to vote in this election
April 25, 2022 – First day to vote early in this election
April 26, 2022 – Last day for the registrar to receive UNPOSTMARKED mail-in ballot application
May 3, 2022 – Last day to vote early in-person
May 7, 2022 – Day mail-in ballots must be postmarked
May 7, 2022 – Last day to submit an UNPOSTMARKED mail-in ballot by 7 pm
May 7, 2022 – Last day to vote in person by 7 pm
NOVEMBER 8, 2022 – Uniform Election
This is the big day! Statewide, countywide, local Representatives, and Senators; all will be decided on Election Day.
January 1, 2022 – First day to apply for a mail-in ballot
October 11, 2022 – Last day to register to vote in this election
October 24, 2022 – First day to vote early in this election
October 28, 2022 – Last day for the registrar to receive UNPOSTMARKED mail-in ballot application
November 4, 2022 – Last day to vote early in-person
November 8, 2022 – Day mail-in ballots must be postmarked
November 8, 2022 – Last day to submit an UNPOSTMARKED mail-in ballot by 7 pm
November 8, 2022 – Last day to vote in person by 7 pm
If one candidate does not receive 50% of the votes, your voting district will require an additional RUN-OFF election. You will be notified of eligibility and run-off election dates.
